PSenterprise

PSenterprise (or PSe for short) - the lack of a capital E for enterprise was a marketing thing I think -was a client/server Windows based Payroll and HR product.

PS had appointed a new development Director (later styled International Director) in the PC division. He was a highly capable chap who knew the market and knew the technologies.

I don't think he saw much of a future in the OpenInsight platform.

This was also at the time when the internet was emerging and I remember him telling me "things are changing fast - today we can get a piece of VB code for a control we need off some guy on the internet for peanuts rather than having to spend years doing it ourselves".

At about this time, I got the chance to go and work for an international market leader called PeopleSoft.  They'd seen the Windows client/server "light" in 1987 and were expanding rapidly.  I felt sorry to leave after 6 years, but it really was time to go and I didn't want to give the outfit another chance to try and make me redundant as they had about a year earlier (actually it was a single individual who wouldn't even talk to me himself about it - but that's another story entirely).

For me the trail went a bit dead at this point - but I understand PSe shared quite of bit with OpenDoor - much of the data model as one example.  Whilst I kept a casual eye out and wondered if I'd done the right thing, PSe seemed to be a success and a worthy replacement for PS2000 (if not perhaps for  OpenDoor).
